It's not often that I do this sort of post where I tell you all about my day and where I've been and what I did. Mainly because I am boring. I sit in my bakery all day and bake bread and then I walk along the beach with my parents and drive back to the bakery to serve food until 8:30pm. But Mondays are our days off and this past Monday we went for a drive to Whangarei which is the nearest major city to us. The best thing about Whangarei is Arthur's Emporium.
My mother loves Arthur's because of the huge selection of fabrics, my father loves it for the strange and wonderful things you find buried in the shelves and I love it because it's dirt cheap. It's one of those magical places where the walls are lined with wigs and flags and there are tons of fancy costume ideas for everyone.
The button section is ever lasting. You could probably find any kind of button you've ever dreamed of here. There are rows and rows of lace, ribbon, string and thread. You could pick up almost anything for a bargain. This makes crafts much easier and cheaper than if you go to Spotlight or The Warehouse and the range is much bigger. I always think supporting local is much better than supporting a corporation, even if it's as ethical as The Warehouse and Arthur's only has two locations as far as I know.
We normally go to KFC in Whangarei as our treat, but after last time, we won't be revisiting that store. The food was cold, the chips weren't cooked at all, the tables and chairs were disgustingly dirty and they forgot half my meal anyway.
I complained to KFC and filled in the form online. I didn't get any response for a long, long time but eventually an apology letter came through the mail with a $20 gift card. It's not a lot considering we're a family of three and it's only valid until the end of the month but it's something I suppose and we'll be going to the KFC in Kaikohe tomorrow when we visit the hot springs.
It'll be nice to have a day off and do something different. We have some friends who sailed from South Africa to New Zealand (that's a huge journey!) so we're going to show them the hot pools.
I'll post more on our visit to the pools tomorrow once we've been and I have some photos...obviously not me in my swimming costume though!

Baking all day and walking on the beach every evening sounds anything but boring to me! And Arthur's Emporium sounds magical.
ReplyDeleteIt does right?! I do like Arthur's. I had more photos but they seem to have got lost somewhere on my iPhone :S I'll have to have a look. You'd love the button and lace sections.
